Juliet’s words were as sharp as her glare, her hand still outstretched. Kate stared; it wasn’t as if she meant to break Jack’s heart. How was she supposed to know that Jack’s heart was something she had a place in, anyway; that she had any agency to break it?<\/p>\n
Juliet was staring at her like she thought Kate knew. Like she thought Kate was the kind of person everyone was making her out to be. So she slept with Sawyer – she’s slept with a lot of guys.<\/p>\n

Juliet waved her head. “This isn’t about that anymore,” she said. “C’mon, pop my shoulder back into place.”<\/p>\n
But Kate wasn’t done. “And how do you know that Jack saw me and Sawyer?” she asked. “Did you come right to him afterwards? Did you kiss him and coddle him and tell him everything would be all right? Did you sleep with him?”<\/p>\n
“So what if I did?” said Juliet.<\/p>\n
Her eyes were hard, but they gave her away. Kate’s seen the way Jack’s looked at Ana Lucia, looked at her, looked at Juliet; something about the way people look at others she could tell if they wanted to sleep with them or not. Sawyer, he had that look on all the time, whether he was looking at Kate or Jack.<\/p>\n
Juliet was stone, everything about her rigid and edged. She hadn’t slept with Jack because Jack was soft, intuitive, gave in too easily. And Juliet wouldn’t offer something like sex to a person like Jack.<\/p>\n
“You’re a liar,” Kate said, but without any venom.<\/p>\n
Juliet adjusted herself. Her lips twitched, probably pushing back whimpers of pain. “I am,” she said. “So are you.”<\/p>\n
“This isn’t about men, is it?” said Kate. “This isn’t about me and Jack, or me and Sawyer, or you and–whoever.” She waved a hand. “This is just all a game to you, isn’t it? You have a mind like Ben. It’s just a game.”<\/p>\n
“I’m not like Ben,” said Juliet.<\/p>\n
Kate came closer. “You feed off this power play thing,” she said. “You want\u00a0control<\/em>. And when you woke up next to me, you didn’t have it, so you’ve been trying to make it so that with me at least you were in some position of power.”<\/p>\n Juliet wasn’t speaking anymore, just staring up as Kate came closer.<\/p>\n Kate couldn’t keep the corners of her mouth twisting into at least a small smirk.<\/p>\n “Well I’m the one in control now,” she said, before she dived at Juliet.<\/p>\n The kiss was probably the part that came more of a surprise to Juliet, than herself. What actually surprised Kate was the way Juliet’s body relaxed almost immediately, into the dirt ground. Juliet tasted like sweat and probably an aftertaste of tea, Kate figured, if she pulled back. Her lips were thin and Kate’s were full and Juliet opened her mouth to bite, except gently.<\/p>\n Kate tilted her head and gasped for breath. Juliet’s head fell back. “My hair,” she murmured, and Kate let out a hot chuckle against Juliet’s cheek.<\/p>\n She raked her teeth against Juliet’s chin, ran her hands down to Juliet’s sides. Slid her fingers of her free hand under her shirt and grinned when she felt her shiver underneath her. “My shoulder’s still dislocated,” Juliet gasped, and Kate said, “Good.”<\/p>\n Juliet trembled as Kate wasted no time pushing between her legs, and gasped again, which came as a surprise. “Is this turning you on?” Kate asked. “I thought you liked being in charge. Being submissive is good enough for you too?”<\/p>\n Juliet wasn’t answering; Kate wasn’t even sure if her psychoanalysis was even close to being on point. But Juliet’s hips rolled, and Kate knew what that meant.
